Traffic Ticket Brought Me to the Court of Law (Part 2 - The Trial Day)
[ Read Part 1 ]
After waiting for eight straight days, the trial day finally came. I just couldn’t wait for the first experience being on trial, hehehe.. It was Tuesday, June 26th. As written on the traffic ticket, the trial would begin at 10. So I left for trial court at 9:55. Quite tight, wasn’t it?
I rode my motorcycle confidently. I had already known where the court was, although I didn’t know the exact location yet. Since entering the North Ahmad Yani Street, I kept my eyes on the right side of the street, preventing from losing the way. Thank God I didn’t hit anything coz I didn’t focus on my front side
. After minutes of searching, I just remembered that there was a flyover project being built there, in the middle of the road. It was quite disturbing at that time.. And it made me miscalculate the right coordinate of the trial court building, so I had to make turn quite far away from the building
.
Arriving at the court, I was "welcomed" by a lot of expediters outside the fence, peddling their services. I just ignored them and go to the parking lot. After parking my motorcycle, there were more expediters peddling their services to me. That time, the parking officer was also being an expediter too! Gosh.. It reminded me of the situation at the police station, where I applied for my riding license.
By that time, I still didn’t know where to go yet. But I tried too look confident, coz I thought that the hesitants would be expediters’ prospects. I went into the building then. I look for an information center, but I couldn’t find it. There was a man behind the receptionist desk, so I came there and asked where the trial room for traffic was. He asked me to show my traffic ticket. And then he offered his service.. Just like the other expediters before! I had some thoughts, "Oh God, please show me anyone who’s not expediter here.."
The receptionist showed me the court room then, after I refused his offering. The room was at the back side of the building. It would be more simple if I reached the room directly from the parking lot.. If only I knew it.
In the court room, it seemed that the trial had begun. My imagination of a trial court certainly disappeared there. I didn’t see any judge, attorney, or lawyer wearing their robes. Just some people in some kinda office suit. One of the officers instructed me to enqueue my traffic ticket and wait. Minutes later, I heard my name called by the person at the center of the green table. He was the judge, I thought. Then I stepped forward, and he mentioned the amount of fine that I had to pay. It was Rp 31,000.00, just the same as the others’ fine. Was that it?? Was it a trial or just a verdict reading?? Ah, I wouldn’t give a damn about it, just as usual. Thinking of it might just only make some mind stress. Heehee
